Subatomic 1: One Step Beyond Submission Guidelines We’re currently soliciting UPDATE: We're no longer accepting contributions for our first Subatomic Anthology,One Step Beyond: Rocking Tales of the Fantastical. One Step Beyond is a collection of short stories which involve two things: an element of the fantastic (science fiction, fantasy, magic realism, horror) and rock and roll culture, from the early days to the present. Cutoff date for Subatomic 1 is October 1, 2007. The book is scheduled for June 2008. Please let us know if your story is a simultaneous submission. All submissions must be in PLAIN TEXT (meaning not html or rich text but always PLAIN TEXT), pasted into the body of an email. Please, NO EMAIL ATTACHMENTS. We’ll delete the heck out of ‘em. Be sure to proofread your work. You don’t want a silly typo to put you out of the running for publication. The Subject Header of your email message for submissions MUST read: “Subatomic Anthology 2007 Submission: TITLE OF YOUR STORY HERE” If not, you might get deleted as spam. Also, don’t title your story “VIAGRA for CHEAP.” First, in your email, include: Name Address Email Word Count Genre or Subgenre A brief hook (twenty words or less) summarize and hype your story. “It’s sullen mods versus undead man-eaters. Who will win? And who will look classier?” Beneath the title of the story, indicate author name, either your own or a pseudonym. Cut and paste your story, formatted as explained below. Don’t forget to include THE END at the end of your story. This enables us to verify that the entire manuscript has been received. Include a brief one paragraph bio. Please, no joke bios. Keep it real. FORMATTING Use single spaced lines. After each paragraph, add a return. Insert three asterisks *** to indicate a SCENE break. To indicate italics, use underscores around the italicized word(s): _yikes!_. Don’t forget: use plain text, no underlining, bold print, accent marks, etc. in your submission. We recommend you save your file as a .TXT file, re-open it and paste from that. We’re looking for stories from 1000 to 5000 words. Less or more will be considered only if they’re amazing. Nothing over 10,000 words will even be touched. Don’t fib on your word count. PAYMENT We pay $0.01 per word, minimum $10, maximum $50 for first time rights.
